A Serene Bucket List Stroll: Exploring Bandon, Oregon's Beaches with Paulette

As I wake up to the sound of rain tapping against the picture window, I'm filled with a sense of anticipation. Today is not just any ordinary day—it's the day my wife of 40 years and I embark on our much-awaited stroll along the beaches of Bandon, Oregon. The thought of breathing in the crisp January air, feeling the chilly breeze on my face, and witnessing the rugged beauty of Oregon's coastline fills me with excitement.

After a healthy breakfast and a quick cup of steaming coffee to warm us up, Paulette and I bundle ourselves up in layers of clothing. We know the weather can be unpredictable, especially on the Oregon coast, so we come prepared with rain jackets and scarves. As we step outside, the cool air instantly envelops us, but we're undeterred. There's something invigorating about embracing the elements and immersing ourselves in nature's embrace.

The drive to Bandon is a scenic one, with winding roads flanked by towering evergreen trees. The mist hangs low over the landscape, lending an air of mystery to the surroundings. Despite the gloomy weather, there's a sense of tranquility that settles over us as we make our way to the coast.

As we arrive in Bandon, we're greeted by the sight of quaint shops and cozy cafes lining the streets. The town has a charm all its own, with its rugged coastline and towering sea stacks beckoning us to explore. We park our car and make our way towards the beach, eager to begin our adventure.

Stepping onto the soft sand, I feel a sense of adventure wash over me. The vast expanse of the ocean stretches out before us, its waves crashing against the shore with rhythmic precision. The sky is a patchwork of gray clouds, casting a soft diffused light over the landscape. Despite the lack of sunshine, there's a beauty in the muted colors of the winter sea.

Hand in hand, Paulette and I set off along the shoreline, our boots leaving footprints in the damp sand. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks is a soothing melody, lulling us into a state of peaceful contemplation. We walk in companionable silence, lost in our own thoughts as we take in the beauty that surrounds us.

As we round a bend in the coastline, we're greeted by the sight of Bandon's famous sea stacks rising majestically from the water. These towering rock formations are a testament to the power of nature, sculpted over millions of years by wind and waves. Each stack is a unique work of art, with its own distinct shape and character.

We pause to admire, photograph and video the sea stacks, their rugged beauty contrasting starkly with the serene expanse of the ocean. Despite the chilly weather, there's a warmth in my heart as I stand beside Paulette, marveling at the wonders of the natural world. In that moment, I feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this beauty firsthand, to share it with the person I love most in the world.

As we continue our walk along the beach, we encounter other visitors braving the elements. Some are bundled up like usbraving the cold. There's a sense of camaraderie amongst us, a shared appreciation for the wild beauty of the Oregon coast.

We spend hours exploring the shoreline, stopping occasionally to pick up seashells or watch the seabirds soaring overhead. Despite the chill in the air, we're reluctant to leave, reluctant to say goodbye to this place of beauty and tranquility. But as the day draws to a close we know it's time to head back to reality.

As we make our way back to the car, I can't help but reflect on the day's adventures. Despite the cloudy skies and chilly weather, it's been a day filled with warmth and love. Walking hand in hand with my beloved Paulette along the beaches of Bandon, I've been reminded of the simple joys in life—the beauty of nature, the warmth of human connection, and the gift of shared memories.

As we walk back to the Windemere, our beachfront rental I find myself already looking forward to our next day's adventure. Whether rain or shine, I know that as long as I have Paulette by my side, every day is an opportunity for new discoveries and cherished moments together. And for that, I am truly grateful.
