From the Streets of Seattle to the Luxury of Norwegian Encore

Our adventure began with a profound sense of anticipation as my beautiful wife of 41 years and I embarked on our long-awaited bucket list journey: a 7-day Alaska cruise aboard the Norwegian Encore. The excitement was palpable, and as we set out on this voyage, the first day proved to be a tapestry of contrasts, experiences, and unforgettable moments that set the tone for what promised to be a spectacular week.

Arrival in Seattle: A City of Contrasts

Our day started in Seattle, a city known for its stunning skyline, rich cultural tapestry, and, unfortunately, its visible homelessness. As we navigated through the city streets towards the pier, the juxtaposition between the squalor of downtown Seattle and the opulence we were about to experience aboard the Norwegian Encore was striking. The stark contrast was a poignant reminder of how different our experiences could be, even within the same city.

The hustle and bustle of Seattle’s streets seemed like a world apart from the serenity and luxury that awaited us. As we approached Pier 66, our excitement grew, and the promise of the Alaskan adventure ahead began to feel more tangible.

Boarding the Norwegian Encore: A Floating Luxury Hotel

Upon arriving at the pier, we were quickly swept into the efficient boarding process, and soon, we found ourselves stepping aboard the Norwegian Encore. The ship, a floating 20-story luxury hotel, was everything we had hoped for and more. With its elegant design, expansive interiors, and the promise of world-class amenities, it was clear that we were in for a week of unparalleled comfort.

We made our way to our stateroom, a beautiful balcony suite that would serve as our home for the next seven days. We set up our camera and began shooting a timelapse video of the iconic Space Needle and the surrounding cityscape. With our timelapse video complete, we made our way to the aft of the Norwegian Encore, specifically to the outside Deck 8 Promenade Deck, which wraps around nearly all sides of the ship. The Promenade Deck offers a unique vantage point with an open-air view of the ship's departure. We were eager to capture the experience of sailing away from Seattle, and this deck provided the perfect location.

As the Norwegian Encore began to pull away from Pier 66, we positioned ourselves at the rear of the ship to record the departure. The scene was nothing short of spectacular. The Seattle skyline, the bustling wharf, and the majestic Seattle Great Wheel slowly receded into the distance, creating a poignant backdrop for our video.

The ship’s departure created a dramatic trail of prop wash, a mesmerizing swirl of water that marked our passage through Puget Sound. The prop wash, combined with the scenic beauty of the coastline and the city’s silhouette, provided an enchanting visual experience.

A Moment of Reflection: From Downtown Seattle to Luxury

As the ship continued its journey north through Puget Sound, we returned to our stateroom balcony to soak in the views. Standing there, watching the Seattle skyline slip beneath the mountain tops in the distance, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s contrasts.
