Lamy Overlook West is a 4.4 mile moderately trafficked round trip trail located near Santa Fe, New Mexico that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderatly difficult. The initial mile is a moderate uphill climb with occassional overlooks of the Amtrak rail. The trail ends with a panoramic vista of the Chicago to LA Amtrak rail, Apache Canyon, Galesteo Creek, Galesteo Basin and the distant Sandia Mountains.
The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.
The Eldorado Community Preserve, a private preserve, consists of 4,094 acres of undeveloped land across Highway 285 from Eldorado at Santa Fe, continuing across the Galisteo River at Cañoncito and south to Lamy. The Conservation Committee and the ECIA are responsible for management of this day-use area. Truly, this amenity is unrivaled in any other local community.
