Trujillo Meadows Reservoir - Chama

Trujillo Meadows Reservoir, fed by the Rio de los Pinos, sits in a valley surrounded by mountains near the headwaters of the Rio de los Pinos. A popular area with hikers and anglers this scenic area offers good facilities, beautiful views, wildflower filled meadows, and excellent trout fishing. To the south the historic Cumbres and Toltec Railroad travels through Cumbres Pass, offering scenic tours between Chama, New Mexico, and Antonito, Colorado.

The Rio de los Pinos River meanders along the Colorado/New Mexico border from high in the San Juan mountains in the west, through the Toltec Gorge to meet the San Antonio River in the east.

The Rio de los Pinos has long been a wild brown trout fishery but, because it lacked depth, structure and shade, it could not support a thriving population.

Fishing this stream and its feeder creeks is an experience that you will remember for a long time.
